Camanio partners with Sagora Senior Living, bringing BikeAround to Ansel Park residents in Rocklin, California

Press release, December 10, 2019

Camanio has initiated a new partnership with Sagora Senior Living to bring the BikeAround experience bike to residents of the Sagora facilities. After having tried and evaluated the BikeAround for six months, Sagora Senior Living is now expanding its use to a second facility in Ansel Park Assisted Living and Memory Care, in Rocklin, Sacramento area, the first in California. This officially brings BikeAround to 10 states.

BikeAround is an innovative reminiscence tool that combines cognitive stimulation and exercise, providing a joyous activity for those who use it. The reminiscence method stimulates memories for individuals suffering from dementia, something that can calm them. The BikeAround provides a unique opportunity for individuals to share experiences with their relatives and staff. Sagora Senior Living has decided to bring it to California, as they are currently building a brand-new community in Rocklin, which provides the opportunity to adapt the location for the use of BikeAround. Having an allocated, adapted space for the BikeAround jDome makes it possible to gain the most out of the immersive experience for the residents.

 - “BikeAround is such a wonderful incorporation of all the different dimensions of wellness into one machine or activity. You can use it in so many ways. It’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and social. We have yet to have anyone get on the bike and there not be a crowd form. Residents want to see where they are going and hear their neighbors’ stories as well, says Christal Hoffman, Corporate Director of Lifestyles and Pathways, Sagora Senior Living.

BikeAround has been successfully installed in several care homes and assisted living facilities, in the U.S. as well as in Canada, Sweden and several other countries around the world. The results are overwhelmingly positive. It has also proven to be effective in educational settings, including for those with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Now Camanio and Sagora Senior Living brings it to California, with hopes of incorporating it into more communities across the country.

5.8 million people suffer from dementia in the United States alone. This number is projected to increase to nearly 14 million in 2050. The societal cost of dementia in the U.S. in 2019 is calculated to be $290 billion. Through the use of BikeAround it is possible to mitigate the negative effects of dementia both for the individuals suffering from it and for society as a whole.

- “California is an important market for BikeAround and Camanio. Our continued efforts in spreading the BikeAround and its values is highly rewarded through new-found partnerships like this. Since BikeAround is based on Google StreetView, it’s somehow closing the circle bringing it back to California, where the parents of Silicon Valley- workers are moving into care homes, says Catharina Borgenstierna, CEO of Camanio.
