The Giraff Care Robot
Giraff is a robotized communication system that enables virtual visits, both for oversight and for social interaction at a distance, especially for the elderly and for people with disabilities.
Via Giraff, home care, healthcare professionals and relatives can have direct contact with the robot's owner by maneuvering the robot in the room and talking through a monitor.
Giraff is built as a raised and lowered video screen on a long and narrow neck and at the bottom it is equipped with a small computer. The robot is driving on resilient wheels, can move over rugs and thresholds, and has four IR sensors to avoid collisions.
